I hope that by now you all know how much I’m obsessed with Harry Potter, and since it’s his birthday, I mean…I had to do it! I got this from Book Dutchesses.
Flagrate: Writing Charm – A book in which you found the theme interesting, but you’d like to rewrite?
Probably Anna Dressed In Blood. I love the idea presented, and how some parts got really dark. But overall, I wish it’d been stronger.
Alohomora: Unlocking Charm – The first book in a series that got you hooked?
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Look. Harry Potter has been a massive part of my life for the last nineteen years. Especially once I got out of school and found a family with the Harry Potter Alliance. So yes, the boy himself led me down this path.
Accio: Summoning Charm – A book you wished you could have right now?
The fourth book in The Bone Season series. I know Samantha Shannon is working on it now, but I need it.
Avada Kedavra: The deadly Curse – A killer book? Both senses. Take it as you like.
To go along with the answer above, Priory of the Orange Tree. The ARC for that thing could easily kill someone. Plus there’s a dragon.
Confundo: Confusing Charm – A book you found really confusing?
How to Hang a Witch. I went in with such high hopes for it, but then it turned into a weird ghost love story, and some parts were just so contrived to me. It was more confusing in the sense of, “how did you have the bones for such a great book, only to turn it into a Mary Sue kinda story?”
Expecto Patronum: Defensive charm – Your spirit animal book?
Probably Lirael. I read it at a time when I felt really out of place and alone, and when I’m really upset or sad, I’ll go back to it.
Sectumsempra: Dark Charm – A Dark Twisted Book?
Nos4a2. It’s so dark! It’s overly creepy, yet I’m obsessed with it.
Aparecium: Revealing Charm – A book that surprised you in a great way, reveals to be more than it is?
Honestly, probably a tie between Graceling and Cinder. The first I started reading during grad school, and just couldn’t get past the first chapter. I read it again for a book club and it was so good???? The same can be said for Cinder. I expected it to be a generic Cinderella retelling, but there was so much more to it!
